This week, I got an email from someone who is getting our fundraising ideas via email. She said "These are great for SPCA's and Humane Societies but what about ideas for breed-specific organizations?"

I was sort of stunned because to me, almost ALL of the fundraising ideas could be used by ANY organization. There's no reason a breed-specific rescue can't use them. Here's what I said in my reply:

"Here we have a micro brewery called Laughing Dog. Their logo is a yellow lab, inspired by the owner's dog Ben. If I were involved with a retriever rescue (or any dog rescue really), they'd be the FIRST business I'd approach. In fact, as it happens, the owner is a great guy who actually has helped rescue groups here, so it's not a far-fetched idea. (Pun intended!)

Think about the people who have adopted your dogs. Particularly your best adoptions, where they email you back and tell you how much they love the dog. Do any of them own businesses? Would they be willing to help? Remember, it's an opportunity for THEM to promote their business too. People LOVE dog stories...and for the business, the opportunity to talk about their wonderful dog that they adopted makes them look good too. In this economy, businesses are looking for new ways to promote themselves. The key is to think about ways you can make a fundraiser a "win-win" for both of you."

This week I also got an email from a reader named Cheri who let me know about a new site for posting events. It's called http://publicdrum.org and it works in conjunction with http://syndicateus.org. They appear to be getting started, but the goal is to help groups get information about their events to the media.
